Letting Go of the Scarcity Mindset

Our lives are saturated with information constantly flying at us from different places, particularly now that social media avenues have exploded (I don’t even understand TikTok, Snapchat etc??). We all know that when it comes to social media, what’s shared with the world isn’t necessarily reflective of reality. We don’t see the time, effort and mocking from random people that’s involved behind the scenes when it comes to setting up that perfect shot. Despite knowing this, seeing someone else unboxing their latest Hermes purchase or living it up on their fancy Summer holiday in Italy can spark envy, longing and desire in the best of us. These posts promote the highlights of a person’s life and most tend to centre around material wealth and lifestyle. The rest of us can’t help but cast comparisons that make us feel like we’re missing out or lacking something in our own lives. This is referred to as the Scarcity Mindset.
Any form of thinking that focuses on the idea that we do not have enough and that our lives are lacking relates to the scarcity mindset. Here is a nugget of gold for you: life is like a mirror. Reality is reflected back to you based on how you think and behave. If you hold onto thoughts of lacking and scarcity, then that is what will be reflected in your reality. Have you ever met someone who constantly moans and complains but doesn’t do anything about their problems and simply continues to wallow in their misery? That’s because they have a scarcity mindset (and they possibly enjoy it too). If you instead focus your energy on abundance, clarity and intention, then you will definitely manifest these into your reality – often referred to as the Law of Attraction. This isn’t about wishful thinking and playing the lottery but exploring your fundamental thinking and behaviour patterns and changing these to start directing your life in the way that you choose. Focusing your energy on abundance and intention will enable you to develop resourceful habits in your life, leading you to manifest your desired reality.
It is irrelevant what someone else’s life appears to be on social media. What matters is what you already have in your life and what values you hold around this. Many of us can acknowledge and be thankful for having simple things like food to enjoy, freedom to go for a walk, a phone to call loved ones, clean running water. Awareness of the abundance that already exists is the beginning of shedding a scarcity mindset. You will find yourself building momentum by engaging in positive habits, leading to more good things presenting themselves to you.
A final note: I mentioned intention earlier and this is important. Intention means that you will take responsibility and hold yourself accountable for creating the life that you want and will take the necessary actions to achieve this. This is very different to doing nothing and simply wishing and praying for good things to happen. It’s also worth acknowledging and accepting that adopting an abundance mindset doesn’t mean that you won’t encounter challenges and hard times. That is a natural part of life. However you can control how you respond to and perceive these challenges, opening yourself to feedback, learning and growth. Remember that good things already exist in your life and it’s simply a matter of building on this through gratitude and intention. Focus on what you want and move towards it rather than thinking about what you feel to be lacking. You will see results, I guarantee it.
